This tool was designed to support teachers, counselors and others who might have contact with children and youth isolated at home during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers and counselors, always a critically important part of our safety net, are more important than ever as they carry on with distance learning. This tool is designed to help them understand and utilize their new role and what they can do to help children so they can engage more in learning and be safer.
Please share it with as many people as possible who can be a positive social connection for kids. Those connections are what help build resilience, in children and adults, to weather difficult times. Please provide feedback, ask questions or comment here.
Research citations were omitted for brevity but can be provided upon request.

RESOURCES FOR STRESSED OUT PARENTS
Parents who face increasing hardship and stress as a result of COVID-19 are also more isolated from social connections and supports, like schools, child care centers and health providers. These families and children deserve special attention, and so we will post resources we create or find here. If you are an organization seeking advice or response support, contact us. Prevent Child Abuse America has some great resources for family strengthening.
If you are a struggling parent, or having a parental crisis, call 415-441-5437, Safe & Sound from anywhere.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE DURING A CRISIS
COMMENTS
"The authors did an outstanding job at creating a very informative tool for teachers and counselors. This easy to read handout addresses the daunting role of educators and mental health providers without instilling despair and a lack of helplessness. The detailed FAQ section provides detailed responses and prompts that the user can use immediately. I also love that the guide begins and ends by highlighting the importance of self-care. "

"While it is of vital importance to support the healthy development of children during this unprecedented time, it is a challenge for teachers and counselors to know how to do that without seeing their students in typical educational settings. This guide is a needed and appreciated resource, providing quick and helpful tips about how to support the wellbeing of children and families from a distance."
